Yvette “Eve” Rand, April 2024. Eve was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard (“Dick”) Rand. Eve leaves behind her son, Kevin and wife, Paula, from Flagstaff, Arizona, her son, James and wife, Victoria, from Landenberg, Pennsylvania, her daughter, Janice Vaughn and husband, David, from Natick, Massachusetts, her son, Timothy and wife Sandra, from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; her daughter, Betsy Morrison and husband, Jim, of Bonita Springs, Florida, her son, Peter and wife, Jennifer, of Portland, Oregon, 14 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren (with one on the way!).
Yvette, the daughter of Irénée and Antonia Rajotte of Bristol, Connecticut, was born on March 12, 1929, and raised in Bristol. After graduating from Bristol High School in 1947 she served as the children's librarian at the Bristol Public Library for 8 years. She married Dick in Germany on May 6, 1956, and the young couple lived in Germany for the remainder of Dick’s tour before returning to Connecticut.
Eve retired in 1994 after many years as a bookkeeper for physicians in Fredericksburg, Virginia and Dayton, Ohio. She and Dick retired to Southern Shores, North Carolina, in a house they both played a role in designing and building. They both loved the ocean and the beach drew them to the coast of North Carolina for retirement; the Outer Banks in North Carolina was their favored family vacation spot for decades.
Dick and Eve joined the Pennybyrn community in High Point, North Carolina, in 2003, and Eve remained active in this community for over 20 years. She served as a touchstone and role model for many at Pennybyrn, where she was a cherished fixture. Her presence brought comfort, love, and a sense of community to all who had the opportunity to know her.
Eve never sat still. She had boundless energy devoted to many pursuits in a spirit of building community. She spent many hours walking the grounds at Pennybyrn appreciating the beauty while dutifully picking up any litter she encountered. Every day she made a positive impression, either from a distance with her warm smile and a wave, or through caring conversation.
Eve will be remembered as a loving wife and deeply caring and devoted mother and grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. She had a deep devotion to the Catholic faith and a genuine appreciation for the gift of life. She took many opportunities throughout her life to volunteer in church-related programs. As a mother to six she was extremely proud of her family, she loved children, never met a game she did not like, and was a caring member of the Pennybyrn community for many years.
A memorial mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1505 E M.L.K. Jr Dr., High Point, NC 27260 on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 10:00am.
