Joanne Marie English

Joanne Marie English, age 76, of Commerce Township, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Left to cherish her memory are her son, John; her loving partner of over twenty years, Lou; her five siblings: Judith (Dale) Balteff, Michael (Jenny) Cary, Howard (Sylvia) Cary, Jr., Geoff (Terry) Cary, and John (Eva) Cary, Vickie Cary-sister in law; and her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, who loved her dearly.

Joanne(also known as Sis) was born April 9, 1946, in Detroit, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Howard and Shirley (Golata) Cary. She spent her adult life raising her sons; and she wore many different hats when it came to her professional life! Joanne was best known as the “Pumpkin and Pony Lady” in her community by sharing her home for children to come for pumpkins and pony rides, and she loved providing pony rides for kids at children’s birthday parties! She was also a great Equestrian rider. Joanne was also a well-known beekeeper in Commerce Township for many years. She enjoyed making wreaths and grave blankets, additionally honey and fudge to sell at local farmers markets. Most of all, Joanne loved the time she spent with her family, who she loved unconditionally. She was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, Howard, Sr., and Shirley; her two sons: Cary “Boo”, and Zachary; and her brother, Robert Cary.

In accordance with Joanne’s wishes, cremation will take place. A Memorial Service will take place at 3:00 pm Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Road, Highland, 48356. Joanne’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm.
