Lonnie E. Gibson

Lonnie was born on November 26th, 1946 to Everett and Juanita Gibson in Fonde, Kentucky. He relocated to Detroit, Michigan in the 1950s and married his beloved wife Sue in 1966 who he was married to for 58 years. He and Sue eventually settled down in Highland, Michigan where they raised their two girls Kim and Melissa and became members at Highland Congregational Church.

Lonnie had a strong desire to help others and served in various retail roles throughout his career including, sales manager at Fretter Appliance where he spent 12 years. Outside of his work, you could find Lonnie working on his GTO or volunteering at his church. In his later years, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and while things changed, he never let the diagnosis define him or slow him down. Lonnie was an active member of the grand blanc rock steady boxing class where he and Sue made many lifelong friendships and he committed to doing weekly virtual exercise with his granddaughter Torrey through the Michigan Parkinson Foundation.

Lonnie was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to so many. Those who knew Lonnie knew that he valued his family, friends and God more than anything else. Lonnie will be missed, but the lives he has touched along the way will continue to carry his spirit wherever they go.

Lonnie is survived by his beloved wife, Sue Gibson, Daughters Kim (Terry) Christopher and Melissa (Bob) Kripl, grandchildren Jason Christopher, Torrey (Justin) Davenport and Joey Kripl, great granddaughter Margo and sister Lisa (Don) Morrison.

A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Highland Congregational Church, 1605 N. Hickory Ridge Road, Highland, Michigan 48357, The family will receive visitors at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service.
