Marjorie Ann Barker

Marjorie Ann Barker, age 97, of Oscoda, formerly of Highland, died Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at her home. Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters: Edith Smith, and Kathy (Leo) Capadagli; her nine grandchildren; her fifteen great-grandchildren; her great-great-granddaughter; her sister, Peggy (Mel) McIntyre; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Marjorie was born December 19, 1923, in Springfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Frank and Ruby (Squires) Sisson. She met the love of her life, Clarence Barker, at a skating rink in Pontiac at the age of twelve. They grew up together, fell in love, and were eventually married on April 27, 1946. Marjorie attended Pontiac Business College, and then went on to begin her career as a secretary at General Motors in 1968, where she stayed until her retirement in 1982. In her free time, Marjorie loved to sit in the sun outside; especially when she got to watch her grandchildren play in the backyard! She also held fond memories of her trips to the casino over the years. Marjorie was a fun-loving, happy woman who loved her family and her life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ruby; her loving husband, Clarence Barker Jr; her two children: Robert Barker, and Barbara Moody; her sons-in-law, Bill Smith and Dan Moody; her brother, Frank Sisson, Jr.; and her identical twin sister, Edith Janka.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, August 9, 2021, at 12:00 pm at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Road, Highland 48356. Marjorie's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm. A burial will follow at Perry Mount Park Cemetery, 878 N. Perry Street, Pontiac, 48340. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may consider memorial contributions to Compassus Hospice of West Branch, who have taken such wonderful care of Marjorie.
