Philip Dennis Serre, age 69, of Highland, Michigan left this earthly domain on Sunday, January 17, 2021, leaving behind hundreds of cans of soup, tuna, beans, jars of spaghetti sauce, and multitudes of other random items that would prove their value in the event of an apocalyptic occurrence. As a lifelong fan of daily grocery shopping (that he called “bum walking”,) he relished in his independence; walking the aisles looking to score bargains to share with his family, friends, and neighbors.
He would buy over-ripe bananas for Lucy to use in her banana bread, and green bananas for Pat because that is how she liked them. Even though he was not a beer drinker he always made sure there was a seemingly unlimited supply of cold beer for the guys spending quality time at his Man Cave including Ronald, Frank, and Kevin; three of his most significant caregivers and lifelong friends.
Philip passed away at Huron Valley Sinai Hospital in Commerce Twp., due to complications following surgery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip H. and Leona A. Serre; and his two brothers: Thomas W. and Robert E. Serre. Left to cherish his memory are his sister, Dr. Camille M. Serre; his niece, Jensen Serre Douglas and her husband Loyd Branden Milby; great niece Leona M. Milby; and many loving nieces, nephews, their spouses and children.
Philip was born in Detroit, and grew up in Dearborn. He graduated from Dearborn High School, and then went on to continue his education at Eastern Michigan University, eventually graduating with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He will be remembered in perpetuity as a kind, humble, generous, caring, and loving person.
