Tom is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Gwili; his son, Chad (Denise) McDonnell; his daughter, Terasa (Craig) Bond; his grandchildren, Monet (Parker) Sutton, Jacob Bond, Madison (Kyle) Duhaime, Hailey (Mason) Bond, Carson McDonnell, Maxx Adamski; and his great-grandson, Rune. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Virginia McDonnell; his brother, Lester McDonnell; and his great-granddaughter, Lorelai Annette.
Tom will be remembered as a kind, loving, and generous man who was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. He especially cherished time with his family and took great pride in his children and grandchildren. A favorite memory shared by many is how much he enjoyed teaching his grandchildren, especially things with a touch of mischief.
He found joy in simple pleasures, including motorcycles, cars, golf, walking, playing euchre, and working in the yard. He also enjoyed watching Tigers baseball, Lions football, University of Michigan football, and playing Yahtzee. Tom valued time spent with his wife, Gwili, whether on date nights or sharing in their faith.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Elton Black and Son Highland Chapel, 3295 E. Highland Road, Highland, Michigan, on May 1st, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will take place the following day, May 2nd, at 11:00 AM, with a gathering hour beginning at 10:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at AFSP.org.
Tom will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
