Born near Detroit and raised in East Detroit, Nancy’s life was a testament to her profound dedication to her family and her boundless compassion for others.
Nancy was the beloved wife of James Roy, with whom she shared a life full of love and cherished memories. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Terry and Daniel, who, along with Nancy’s precious granddaughters, Bella and Leila, were the light of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper Collins and Amanda Tolliver, and her siblings Rick, Reta, and Jay. Nancy's legacy lives on through her children Terry and Dan, and her grandchildren Bella and Leila, her half-sister Mary and step-brother Chris, as well as her extended family, including numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws, who will remember her with the deepest affection.
Nancy’s academic journey took her from East Detroit to Wayne State University, where she graduated with honors. Her true passion lay in education, and she dedicated her career to teaching and tutoring individuals from all walks of life, with a special focus on special needs adults. Her enthusiasm for learning and her genuine interest in her students' stories made her a beloved figure in her field, where she was honored with an Educator of the Year award in 2006.
Her greatest joy came from meeting new people, hearing their stories, and sharing her own. Known for her extraordinary kindness and a heart brimming with love, Nancy touched the lives of all who knew her. Her spirit of empathy and her generous nature were felt by everyone around her.
Nancy's family and friends will hold onto her memory with love and gratitude for the remarkable woman she was. Her legacy of compassion and her deep love for others will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be profoundly missed, but her love and the impact she had on those around her will live forever.
