Many will agree that Patsy Layonne Vallier is a strong, independent, and loving person, but what many don’t know is that she gets these characteristics from her wonderful mother who pushed her to live up to her full potential. Ms. Vallier was the first born from Dorothy Marie Dodds, and Rodney Arthur Paterson on November 11, 1940. Her father was drafted into World War 2, passed away when she was three. Her mother later remarried and had a son Garry Gene Pease.
Growing up Patsy had a love for school and made sure to make it every day. Good grades came easy for her especially in history and shorthand. Ms. Vallier grew up in the Muskegon area and attended the Muskegon School of Business for three years. This is where she met her ex-husband, who she was married to for 15 years, and had their child Francine.
Another great thing that came from school was meeting her three best friends: Ines Gasaway, Carla Brown, and Bonnie Akerlind. One of her fondest memories was always hanging out at one of her best friend’s house because she had a brother and his friends were there. Throughout the years she has cherished the friendship they have shared and the enriching activities they participated in.
She has entertained herself by going out with friends, and attending church. In her downtime she enjoys putting together puzzles. If an opportunity to go outside arose she would take it in a heartbeat and enjoy the beauty the world has to offer. Patsy has a passion for cooking big meals for her family and friends. Her biggest meals were made every two years when she would have her family reunions. Christmas was always her favorite holiday because of the many presents she received and it was always a time she could spend with her family.
Patsy’s pride and joy is her daughter, and her grandson, Jacob Tyler Manschesky. She really enjoys the trains he brings and the pictures he shares with her which make her day. When asked what advice she would give to her daughter she replied saying, “My daughter is smart enough to know what is right and wrong.”
Patsy’s first job was a car hop at an A&W Rootbeer stand. She worked there for three years and earned enough money to buy her first car. She then went on to be a clerk at the courthouse.
Patsy has spent the past several months at Medilodge of Holland, a nursing rehabilitative facility in Holland, MI. Her greatest joys have been the moments her family has come and loved on her. The sight or mention of her grandson consistently brings the brightest smile and warm conversations. Family is her greatest motivation for the day and has brought great joy to her life.
