He graduated from Lake City High School in 1982 and was joined in marriage to Anne Marie (Venturi) Young on January 11, 1997.
He attended Central Michigan University and graduated from Mid-America College of Funeral Service in 1986. Rick worked at Dykstra Funeral Home in Holland, Michigan for 10 years before returning home to Lake City in 1996 to become the third-generation funeral home director of Young Funeral Home.
A man of great faith, he loved the Lord with all his heart and soul, spending countless hours in the Lord’s creation; hunting and fishing. Rick continued his love of nature by raising elk, beagles, rabbits, and mountain sheep. He served his community with a helping hand as board member of the Missaukee Area Chamber of Commerce, trustee of the Lake City Evangelical Presbyterian Church, a volunteer at Lake City Area Schools, and was ultimately named Citizen of the Year with his wife in 2016. Proud of his Scottish heritage, he would wear his Young tartan kilt yearly at the Highland Games in Livonia, Michigan.
He had a gift for unconditionally loving and serving others with a gentle touch and endearing spirit. Rick would often go out of his way for anyone in need and had a light-hearted sense of humor. He embraced his role as a loving father and will be remembered as a faithful husband, a compassionate friend, and a good neighbor to many lives, both known and unknown. His impact carries on through the lives of those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; children, Jessica (Jay) Gillespie, John Campbell, Rebecca (Jeffrey Pearson) Young, and James Young; sisters, Kimberly (Joseph) Blaszak, and Debra (Mark) Neitzel; and parents, Richard (Susan) Young.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Mae Young.
