Bob worked for a number of years as a family caseworker for the Salvation Army in Grand Rapids, a job he found very rewarding. He also loved the open road, spending many years driving truck and enjoying the independence it brought. He was passionate about music, often playing guitar and writing songs. He had a love for photography and the outdoors. Camping in the hills of West Virginia was a favorite pastime.
Bob was deeply involved in Alcoholics Anonymous where he found support and lasting relationships. The connections he made through the program were an important part of his life and he valued the community he found there. He was committed to supporting others who were walking a similar path.
Bob was adopted at a young age and was raised with love and care by Howard and Mildred Vanden Berg, who supported him in all seasons of life. They instilled in him a faith in God that would serve him by providing the strength it took to keep moving forward.
Bob will be missed by those who knew him and shared in his journey. He is survived by sisters Kathy (Mike) Steere and Margaret (Kim) Buckley. He is also survived by 4 nieces and one nephew.
The family thanks HospiceCare of West Virginia for their kindness and care.
A graveside service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Holland, Michigan, at a later date.
