

Stephen E. Kopas, age 67, beloved husband of Jan (Norton) Kopas, dear father of Craig (Natasha) and Scott (Jessica) Kopas, loving grandfather of Clive and Chehon Kopas and Lilly Sanders, brother of Lawrence Kopas, Carol Matusek, and Diane Levoy, son of the late Edwin and Anna Kopas, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2016 in Indianapolis, IN.
Mr. Kopas was born August 20, 1948 in Cleveland, OH and was a 1970 Phi Kapa Theta graduate of the Case Institute of Technology, where his father had previously graduated, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and played catcher for the varsity baseball team.
He was an employee of General Motors for more than 40 years, including stops in Cleveland, OH, Muncie, IN, and Saginaw, MI, and was currently employed with Rolls-Royce North America in Indianapolis, IN.
Stephen's passion for athletics continued throughout his life, as he was a member of many various baseball and softball umpire associations, regularly officiating scores of both school-sponsored and city-sanctioned contests in both Michigan and Indiana.
He also had a love for basketball, spending time as an Assistant Coach at Calvary Baptist Academy and Bay City Western High School in mid-Michigan, and most recently worked as a Recruiting Assistant for the Hope College Men’s Basketball program.
Far from being one-dimensional, Mr. Kopas was also an accomplished musician, regularly composing, arranging, performing and conducting at various musical concerts around the world with his wife for The Medical Musical Group, the world's premier medical chorale and symphony orchestra.
He and his wife were members of the Calvary Baptist Church of Midland, MI.
Funeral services are planned for 11:00am, Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Engedi Church, 710 Chicago Dr., Ste 100, Holland, MI 49423.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 12, from 4-6pm at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St. Holland, MI 49424.
