Albert “Rico” Rivera passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the age of 74.Born on April 16, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York, Rico spent most of his life in Miami, Florida — a place that reflected his warmth, humor, and vibrant spirit. Later in life, he and his beloved wife Bertha E. Rivera retired to Orange Park, Florida, where they enjoyed peaceful days surrounded by friends and family and sunshine.
Rico proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that shaped his strength, courage, and deep sense of loyalty.He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha, his parents Herman and Brunilda Rivera, and his sister Inez Rivera He is survived by his children Jennifer Rivera Ensley (and husband Matt), Desi Bates (Robert), Anthony Bates (and wife Susanna), and Haywood Armstrong, Jr., (Carletta); his grandchildren Hayley, Trace, Lily, Charlie, Tasha, TJ, Jayamary, Matthew, Anthony, and Romello; his great-grandchildren Jasper, Rowan, Armaan, Micha, Makayla, Taliyah, Tyler, Lamora, Ava ; and his brother Louis Rivera (and wife, Iris and nephew, Anthony) of Sebring, Florida and niece Stacey Laffey.
Rico’s love for life was contagious. He was known for his sense of humor, his generous heart, and his passion for friends and family. He had a lifelong love of classic rock music, often sharing his favorite songs with anyone who would listen, and he was a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan, never missing a chance to cheer on his team. Whether telling stories, sharing a meal, or simply enjoying the company of those he loved, Rico made every moment memorable.
Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the laughter of friends and family, the memories he created, and the love he gave so freely.
A celebration of life will be held at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home in Miami, on October 25, 2025, where friends and family will gather to honor him.
