

Alfred H. Pepin, Jr., age 88, passed away on Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Hollywood, Florida. Pepin was born in Arcadia, FL on March 20, 1922 to Alfred H. Pepin, Sr. and Emily Louise Robbins. Pepin moved to Connecticut at age five and spent most of his life living in or near Hartford. Pepin spent the last 10 years of his living in Hollywood, FL.
He served with distinction during World War II as a Corporal in the Anti Tank Company, 353rd Regiment of the 89th Infantry Division of the Third Army. Pepin was present at Ohrdruf concentration camp on April 12, 1945, the day that Generals Eisenhower, Bradley, and Patton personally inspected the camp. Pepin described it as something you'll always remember the rest of your life. After the war and before returning to the U.S., he studied art at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France. Pepin was recalled from inactive duty in 1950 and served as a Master Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He earned two bronze stars for his military service to the country.
Pepin spent his civilian life working as a graphic artist, spending 20+ years at Display Workshop of Hartford, CT. During his spare time, he was deeply involved in local politics, volunteer work, VFW, and American Legion activities. He proudly served on the Andover, CT library board of directors in the 1990s. He maintained a strong interest in current affairs throughout his life and loved discussing politics and national affairs. He also enjoyed reading military history, especially the Civil and World War I and II periods. Pepin was a caring individual who truly believed he could make a difference in the world. He was artistic, creative, outgoing, friendly, opinionated, and sometimes stubborn, but he did most of these things with a good sense of humor and a hearty laugh. He touched many lives during his time here.
Pepin is survived by his son Jason Pepin of Washington, DC and brother Charles Pepin of Hollywood, FL. He is preceded in death by his sister Rose Marie Nelson of Hartford, CT.
