Andrew Harold "Andy" Silas went home to his Lord October 18, 2015. He was born January 30, 1967 to his loving mother Karolee and father Peter W. Silas who abandoned him as a child. Survived by his mother Karolee and stepfather Eugene Hughes, loving son; Corey; brother; Kalin, sisters; Andra (Tom) Klem and Karin, nieces, Kayla and Alexandra, nephews; Noah, Thomas and Zachary; and special friend Diane Morgan who was like a second mom.
Andy grew up in Lake Forest; he spent his days as a young boy riding his bike, playing ball for Lake Forest Optimist and hanging around with neighborhood kids, where he made lifelong friends. Andy loved his family dearly and was a very protective brother for his siblings, especially his little sister Karin, who called him her hero! Andy's pride and joy and greatest earthly riches were his son's, "AJ" and Cory.
As a young adult Andy made some poor choices which caused him great personal struggles and pain. Through it all he remained kind hearted, gentle spirited and forever optimistic for the future. Those who knew him well will always remember his good looks, beautiful smile and bravery in the face of great adversity.
Andy will be dearly and forever missed by his friends and family but we are grateful that he will now spend eternity struggle free, pain free and with his beloved son, "AJ" who left this earth before him. As Andy always said... Stay strong, love you.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that in the spirit of Andy's generous nature, donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105. www.stjude.org.
Andy's family will honor and commemorate his life in a private gathering. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood.
