Angelo Anthony Messina, age 96, of Tamarac, Florida, passed peacefully on Friday, June 6, 2025, just 20 days short of his 97th birthday, with his beloved family by his side. Angelo was born June 26, 1928, in Mt. Kisco, New York to Italian-Sicilian immigrant parents Salvatore and Anna Maria Messina. He was the youngest of five brothers Frank, Salvatore (Sam),Anthony (Tony), and James (Jimmy).
Angelo grew up in Mt. Kisco where his family grew vegetables and raised chickens.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Thule Greenland. He was twice awarded the Royal Order of the Blue Nose Certificate for serviceman who cross the Artic Circle.
He began working at Reader’s Digest where he met his wife, Joya Veronica Moscati, at the company’s bowling league. Angelo was an avid and excellent bowler. Angelo and Joya were married on May 4, 1957. They had 5 children, Lizbeth, Peter, Susan, Paul and Michael. Angelo and his brother, Tony, built their home in Mt. Kisco by hand.
In December of 1975 Angelo moved the family to Coral Springs, FL and began working at Florida Fine Blanking, a metal tool and die shop. Golf was his passion, and he taught his sons to play as well. He loved watching and talking all sports and played them well as a young man having earned 6 Letters in only two years of H.S.! On any weekend, you could find him up working on his roof or out in the yard.
Angelo was the most gentle, compassionate, and loving soul. “Laughter” and “everything in moderation” were his secrets to a long life. His family will be forever grateful for the wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather that he was.
Angelo was predeceased by his baby daughter Susan, his wife, Joya, and all four of his brothers and their wives. He is survived by his daughter, Lizbeth Wilkinson, his three sons, Peter (Barbara), Paul and Michael; and his loving grandchildren, Brittney, Amber, Michael, Krystina and Jeffrey; and five great-grandchildren. He was so loved by everyone he met. We will all greatly miss him, and his famous “see ya” at the end of each phone call.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, June 21st from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, with a memorial service starting at 4:00 pm, located at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 2401 S. University Drive, Davie, FL 33324.
