Annie was born in Mobile, Alabama to John and Helen Dineen on April 9, 1942. She grew up mostly in St. Albans, NY, and graduated Delahanty High School in 1960. Annie spent her career working in ticket sales, for many years in the great Broadway houses including the Shubert and the Winter Garden. She later managed the Ticketron office in New York Penn Station and worked in the box office at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center.
A quintessential New Yorker, Annie lived for more than 40 years on 44th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, seeing that dynamic neighborhood transform several times over. In addition, Annie lived for a time in the distinctive community of Hoffman Grove, NJ, as well as Long Beach, NY. Annie was also a lover of the sea and spent many summers in Fire Island, Montauk, and Cape Cod. In recent years, Annie has spent time in Dania Beach, FL, where she was able to be with her dear friends the Miller family, and sister-in-law Janet and niece Wendy.
Annie’s life in New York and in the theater informed her astonishing knowledge on a wide range of topics, from cuisine to couture.
Annie is survived by her sister, Ellen McDermott, of San Francisco, nephew Darren McDermott of Hastings on Hudson, and niece Deirdre Santos of San Francisco.
The family of Annie wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Senior Nannies of Florida and to AccentCare Hospice of Broward County.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to AccentCare Hospice Foundation or the ASPCA.
