Barbara Jo (Raney) Powell was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1932. She moved to Fort Lauderdale as a young girl. Active in high school, Barbara maintained her connection to Fort Lauderdale High School, helping to arrange the combined 1949-1950 class reunions every five years for decades. Barbara enjoyed a long career, first with AT&T in New Jersey and after she returned to Florida she worked for Burdines, was town clerk for the Town of Pembroke Park and completed her career with the Downtown Development Authority.
Barbara leaves behind her husband of 39 years, Elwyn N. "Buck" Powell, step children Valerie, Shelly and Elwyn C. Powell, her nephew Dana Gates Raney III and niece Donna Bowers.
