Carolyn Joyce Spennato was born in the small town of Waverly, Tennessee on February 10, 1939. She was a wife, mother, sister, friend and the embodiment of courage. On September 9th, 2024, Carolyn was called home to heaven at the age of 85.
After attending school in Wayne County, Michigan she married her childhood sweetheart, Eugene Spennato, on July 25, 1959. Along with raising their sons, Eugene & Richard, Carol was a bank teller for the Bank of Hollywood and active as a volunteer for the Davie Women’s Club, St. David’s Women’s Club and the Baudhuin Oral School. She & Eugene lived a life of devotion to their family and taught their children the value of hard work, respect for others and the rewarding feeling of helping those in need.
Carol’s life was full of laughter, love and family. Sadly, she suffered a stroke on October 12, 2006, that posed the greatest challenge of her life. She never stopped fighting, never stopped laughing and never let the daily physical limitations that she faced stand in her way. As the years passed and Carol endured a second stroke that posed even more significant challenges, she never lost her will to live and watch her family grow.
Carol is survived by her loving husband Eugene, sons Eugene & Richard, daughter-in-law Leslie Spennato, granddaughters Samantha Rich & Kayla Spennato, grandsons Michael & Ryan Spennato, grandson-in-law Zach Rich and her great grandson Benjamin Rich.
On Carol’s behalf, her family would like to acknowledge some very special people who came into her life at a time when she needed them most. Our sincere thanks and deepest appreciation to Doreen Whyte, Carol’s personal caregiver and dear friend to her family, and Honesha Landell-Clarke, her hospice nurse. They would also like to thank Trustbridge Hospice for their years of care and compassion, especially during Carol’s final days. They didn’t just comfort her, they took care of her family.
Please join Carol’s family and friends as we celebrate her life, her love, her undying kind spirit and love of laughter. There will be a Celebration of Life gathering on Sunday, September 15th from 5PM-9PM at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 2401 South University Drive, Davie, FL 33324. There will also be a mass for Carol on Monday, September 16th, 11AM, at St. David’s Church, 3900 S University Drive, Davie, FL 33328, followed by a funeral procession and interment at Lauderdale Memorial Park, 2001 SW 4th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to your local charity that supports Autism and/or those who struggle with Alzheimer’s.
