Darius Jerome Williams was born in St. Joseph, Dominica on March 25, 1942 to loving parents - Ferdinia Alexander and Wylie Williams. Under their love and care, Darius graduated with top honors from The Dominica Grammar School, became an accomplished accountant and ascended to become the Chief Accountant at the Dominica Social Security Office. Despite his love of Dominica and the beautiful life he created there, Darius selflessly immigrated to Miami, Florida, in an attempt to give his children opportunities beyond his wildest dreams. And that, he did.
Darius was beloved by his lovely wife, Romancia Williams, who he married in 1987. Together, for the past 50 years, Darius and Romancia have laughed, loved, nurtured children, and danced their hearts out to the Mighty Sparrow! The Lord truly blessed them with a lifetime of unwavering love and companionship.
Darius is also survived by his beautiful children, who took full advantage of the opportunity he sacrificed to provide. Through hard work and tireless effort, Darius successfully immigrated to a foreign land and brought all of his children along with him to fully participate in the American Dream. Collectively, Darius’ children have amassed several college and graduate degrees, and they have become doctors, lawyers, educators, university administrators, elected officials, caregivers, hospital workers, entrepreneurs, engineers, real estate brokers, information technology specialists and accountants. Above all of their countless accolades, they have also learned to treat others kindly and with the same type of care and respect their father showed to all he encountered.
His loving children are: Duranie Williams, Gransworth Williams, Anthony Williams, Albert Williams, Joann Gordon, Clotyl Williams, Darius Williams, Jr. and Darian Martin. He was also the devoted stepfather of Josianne Benjamin, Cyril Stanford Stowe, Norman Stowe, Millicent Stowe and Sandra Carbon.
Though Darius always wore his patented smile, nothing brightened his eyes like seeing his many grandchildren: Maricia Williams, Carl Williams, Kwan Williams, Cassie Williams, Vernika Williams, Hannah Gordon, Laura Gordon, Taylor Williams, Cayden Williams, Niharah Shillingford, Carson Shillingford, Moneyede Martin, Jr. (“Trey”), Minkah Martin, Arabella Williams, Ronald Alfred, Samantha Alfred, Rayanne Benjamin, Stanel Stowe, Ansari White, Bryenne Grimmett, Kadeem Stowe, Zach Stowe, Shayne Carbon and Arnelle Carbon.
Darius will always be remembered for his calming presence, devout faith and booming laugh. We will all miss Darius carrying on, with child-like exuberance, about Dominican politics or a cricket match. Ever a simple man, Darius just wanted everyone to smile. His cheerful memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, and his many friends and family members.
