

Donald W. Hulmes, 90, of Southwest Ranches passed away peacefully on November 18, 2017. Born in Beaver Falls, Pa., he graduated from Fork Union Military Academy, Va. where he played the trumpet in the marching band, earned his Eagle Scout Badge and was Asst. Scoutmaster.
Don served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and, upon discharge, earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Miami Law School in 1951. He practiced law at his firm, Hulmes, Dreiling, Pollock, and Weber, in Hollywood and Davie, for 40 years until he retired. In 2001, he was recognized as a 50-Year Member of the Florida Bar.
Don was a 75-year resident of Broward County and was involved in multiple community groups, businesses, and organizations. A few of his career achievements include: Hollywood Rotary President, Committee of 100 President, President of the Hollywood Jaycees, Board of Directors and Attorney for Citizen's, Atlantic, First Union, and Hollywood Federal Banks, City of Lauderhill Councilman, Broward County Public Schools Attorney, Broward College Attorney, and Board of Commissioners Member, South Broward Hospital District.
He was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church, in Hollywood, where, in 1953, he married the only woman that would put up with him, Nancy Wenger. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, in 2003, before the sweetest, nicest, most devoted, loving wife and mother passed away. They raised their five children in the unique Mid-Century Modern home built on one of the first lots in Hollywood Hills. Don enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and breeding and racing thoroughbreds. He and his family traveled extensively and he could always be found videotaping and narrating their experiences in the many states, countries, and continents they visited.
Don is survived by his three daughters; Donna (Don) Hulmes Silver, Lori (Michael) Hulmes, Beverly Hulmes, and grandson, Alex Jeffrey Silver who brought him great joy and was his favorite hockey goalie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Seth and Lois Hulmes, his devoted wife, Nancy, his son, Jeffrey, his daughter, Gail, his brother, Van, and his sister, Janet.
Visitation will be from 12-2:00 PM with the funeral service at 2 PM on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, 6301 Taft St. in Hollywood. Interment will follow at Holllywood Memorial Gardens with Military Graveside Rites by the U.S. Navy.
