Donald D. Wilkie passed away on Monday, January 29, 2018 in Weston, Florida. He was 79 years old, ten days older than his beloved wife Rosalie, whom he fell irrevocably in love with in 1954, when they were sixteen years old. He staked his claim on her in a coffee shop when her date (some long forgotten gentleman) arose to put money in the juke box, whereupon Donald sat down and refused to move when the hopeful but sadly mistaken young man reappeared. They were married on April 27, 1957 and remained together through 60 years of marriage, four children and ten grandchildren.
Donald served in the Navy aboard the destroyer the USS Glennon for three years and was honorably discharged in 1959. He worked at the George Ellis Company in New Haven, Ct. and left to begin his own company, Eastern Connecticut Air Conditioning on June 4, 1980. He retired to Florida in 2004.
If one picture could capture the essence of Donald Wilkie, it would be of him standing arms wide open and a broad smile on his face. He was funny, contentious, mischievous, strong-willed, and unfailingly loyal to friends and family. He deeply loved and was proud of all his children and grandchildren.
Donald is survived by his wife Rosalie, daughters Donna Lee and Christine, sons Daniel and David and grandchildren Tessa, Kieran, Liam, Emma, Ross, Kate, Benjamin, Olivia, Sam, and Isobel.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 2nd from 6:00 - 9:00pm at the Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 2401 South University Drive, Davie, Florida. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 3rd at 9:30am at St. Bonaventure Church in Weston, Florida.
