Mrs. Doris Soto

Mrs. Doris Rivera Soto passed away the evening of Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the grand old age of 91. Born in New York City on August 26, 1934. She lived in Spanish Harlem, New York with her parents, 7 sisters, and 1 brother.

She married Rafael Soto February 20, 1960, and they moved to the Bronx to start their family. Throughout her life Doris worked various jobs, from punching the first data entry cards in the early days of the computer industry to working for the New York Police Department as a receptionist, detective assistant, inventory manager, and traffic guard, and, ultimately, her last job maintaining samples at an interior design firm. Doris moved to Hollywood, Florida in 1978, when she and her two children, Donna and Rafael Jr., joined her husband, Rafael Sr., who had relocated the year prior.

While not being the oldest of her siblings, Doris grew to become the matriarch of her family, helping to raise multiple of her nieces and nephews aside from her two children and ultimately playing caregiver to several of her siblings through their illnesses. In her younger years she had a large presence in the local community coaching girls softball and cheerleading.

Doris is survived by Rafael Soto, Sr., her beloved husband of 66 years, her son, Rafael Soto, Jr., her daughter Donna Marie Brown, and her son-in-law, Shane Brown.

Visitation will be held at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL on Friday, March 20, 2026 from 4pm to 8pm with burial service on Monday, March 23, 2026 at 11am at Fred Hunter’s Hollywood Memorial Gardens North, 3001 N.72 Ave., Hollywood, FL.
