Douglas Roberts, a longtime resident of Davie and jovial proprietor of a popular neighborhood tomato stand for decades, passed away on September 9, 2019 at his home in Cooper City, FL. He was 87. A native of Cypress, FL, Mr. Roberts moved to Davie with his family when he was 13, where he worked in the local sod fields on weekends and summer vacations before graduating from Fort Lauderdale High School in 1952. A devoted husband and father, he was very active in Davie Athletics and the Boy Scouts of America for most of his adult life, and in the congregation of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Davie. In addition to his tomato gardening, Mr. Roberts was fond of traveling and summertime visits to his vacation home in Murphy, NC. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Doris Comer; their four children, Sharon Adams of Fort Lauderdale, Julie LeRoy currently residing outside Denver, Colorado, Douglas M. of Davie, and Mitchell W. of Hollywood; nine grandchildren, and the ever-expanding gift of twelve great-grandchildren.
