

Ivan was born in Penal, Trinidad to James and Zetti LuQui on December 9, 1926. He went to school in Port of Spain, Trinidad and married Bernice Ling on September 14, 1952 in Port of Spain. Ivan and Bernice immigrated to Ottawa Canada to study and make a life for their family. Ivan received an undergraduate degree from Carleton University and went on to get his PhD in Neuroanatomy from Ottawa University. He was a Professor of Neuroanatomy at the University of Manitoba before his appointment to Wayne State University in Detroit where he taught for many years. During his career he received a number of teaching awards, authored a textbook and published numerous research papers.
Ivan is preceded in death by his loving wife Bernice of sixty-seven years. He was also preceded in death by his parents and twelve brothers and sisters.
Ivan is survived by his loving daughters Leslie (Ron) McKerrow and Wendy (Martin) Llanos, grandchildren Ashley McKerrow, Natalie (Marc) Joseph and Brodie Smith and his great-grandchildren Torien, Brianna and Nathan.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 6pm on Friday October 20th at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home at 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida.
The family of Ivan wishes to extend our sincere thanks to his nephew Dr. Richard Cheong for his advice and support, nurses Stephanie and Peter and aides Merlene and Althenia. A special thanks to Lesllie Maguina for working and caring so well for Dad for the last six years.
