Born in Agries, Romania, on May 9, 1943, son of Samuel and Viorica (Serban) Nicula and raised and educated there in Agries, Dumitru migrated to the United States in 1973 settling in Chicago, Illinois. In 1978 he moved to Hollywood, Florida, with his wife Sida, whom she married the year before.
Before his retirement in 2005, he worked as a maintenance supervisor at Star Lakes Condominium Complex in Miami, Florida for many years, then worked as director of maintenance services at Temple Beth Ami in Cooper City, FL. In his spare time, Dumitru was very fond of electronics, building an impressive recording studio and serving others at Sheridan Hills Baptist Church as a video photographer, video editor, usher, and other duties. He also liked to travel, visiting the old country of Romania many times over, and together with his wife Sida were very instrumental in bringing the family of Sida's sister, Iuliana and Teodor Cristea Sr. to America - a gallant gesture, for which we are all very grateful.
