Edith was born to her parents, Hubert Andre and Surprise Michele, in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti on June 5, 1930.
She immigrated to the United States in 1963 and lived in Nyack, NY. In 1966 she met and married her beloved husband of 55 years, Daniel Jean-Louis. They started their life together in Nyack, NY while also helping their children and family members immigrate to the States. During this time Edith worked at American Cyanamid as a lab technician testing various pharmaceutical samples. In 1976 they moved to Spring Valley, NY before retiring to Pembroke Pines, FL 31 years ago.
She was a mother to Mayola Antoine, Herby Charles(Gladys), Marie Casimir, Rocky Jean-Louis and Rachel Florence(Fred); grandmother to Kim Williams (Jherald), Kristen Charles, Kevin Charles(Lakisha), Natalie Casimir, Ashley Casimir, Taron Jean-Louis (Tashiara), Sakia Jean-Louis, Krystle Williams, Olivia Florence and Freddy Florence;great-grandmother to Kayla,Kamryn,Kyah and Jordyn(Kim);Eli(Kristen), Isaiah(Kevin), Takira, Tyvion,Takeem(Taron), Noah, and Londynn(Sakia).
Edith leaves behind her sister, Bertha; sisters-in-law Paulette, Edith, and Gabrielle; many, many adoring nieces and nephews; and cherished extended family and friends.
Our beloved mother was a role model, immigrating to a country without her family and laying groundwork for many future generations. Her work in the sciences at American Cyanamid came without a formal education, yet when she retired her position was filled by a scientist. As a woman known for making the best food, she always had a meal ready just in case someone stopped by. Her favorite was to sing a song without really singing the words. She was a lover of Haitian music, Haitian news, wrestling and boxing, especially Muhammad Ali. She taught us the art of love and respect, something we all have and expect.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Friday, March 26 from 8:30-9:30am at Fred Hunter Hollywood Funeral Home in Hollywood, FL. The funeral service will follow at 10am at St. Boniface Roman Catholic Church in Pembroke Pines, FL. CDC guidelines will be followed at both locations. Masks must be worn and social distancing will be encouraged.
On behalf of the family, we would like to thank each and every one of you for your prayers, thoughts and kind words during this difficult time. For our friends and family, may the Lord bless you and keep you safe as you return to your homes.
