Elsa A. Benedict, a beacon of compassion and dedication, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, in Pembroke Pines, at the age of 69. Born on July 23, 1955, in Bluefields, Nicaragua, Elsa's journey was one marked by an unwavering commitment to caring for others, both in her professional life and personal relationships.
Elsa's educational pursuits in the field of nursing, which began at Chabot College and culminated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Holy Names University, laid the foundation for a career that would touch countless lives. She served with distinction at Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center in Union City, CA, Mills Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, CA, and finally at Broward Health Imperial Point Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, FL, from December 2005 until her retirement in December 2021. Her excellence in nursing was recognized with the prestigious Daisy Award in October 2014.
Beyond her professional achievements, Elsa was a treasurer and proud member of the Daughters of the King – St. Bernadette Chapter, and she dedicated many years as the secretary of the Nicaraguan American Nurses Association (NANA). Her passion for service was matched only by her love for running, tennis, hiking, and golf, as well as a deep love of reading that provided her with endless joy and knowledge.
Elsa's life was a testament to the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." She embodied this sentiment through her loving, faith-filled, and selfless nature. Elsa's legacy is cherished and will be carried on by her devoted husband, Lloyd, her step-children and their children, her sisters Sylvia, Fern, Evonne, Rita, Eunice, Margaret, Deborah, and Claudia, her brother Thalton, her aunt Rita, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were all blessed to know her.
Elsa's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her life was a beautiful example of service and love, and she will be profoundly missed by all.
A public visitation for Elsa will be held Thursday, May 15, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL 33024.
