

Evangeline "Vangie" Emily Rodgers Sherman, 74, passed away with family at her side on May 28, 2014, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, after a lifelong battle with cancer. Vangie was born in Norwich, CT in 1940 and graduated from Norwich Free Academy with Highest Honors. She met her husband and love of her life Robert Sherman in Norwich, where they raised their family together before moving to South Florida in the 1980s. Vangie was an avid reader and life-long learner. She advocated for education as President of the PTA in Norwich, CT and supported her children and grandchildren's college education. Throughout their 58 year love affair, Vangie and her husband operated many successful businesses together. They shared a love of boating, travelling, and time with family. Vangie devoted much of her time to the care of others, especially animals and children, and donated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Tommy Christmas Toy Fund, and the Animal Rescue Foundation. Vangie is survived by her husband Robert, her children Mark Sherman and Jill Sturgill, son-in-law Larry Sturgill, brother Bill Rodgers, sister-in-law Marcia Rodgers, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, her dear friends, and extended family. She was predeceased by her brother Samuel Rodgers of Stafford, VA, with whom she was very close. Vangie loved life and was an extraordinary mother, wife and friend. She was a true angel on Earth and will be dearly missed by all that knew her. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be announced at a later date.
