Frederick Samuel Hogarth, age 92, of Dania Beach, Florida passed away peacefully at home in his favorite spot gazing upon the lake on June 4, 2024. He was born on August 30, 1931 in Norwood, Massachusetts, to George B. Hogarth and Mildred Baker.
Frederick Hogarth is survived by his spouse Marianne Hogarth, his children Debi Hogarth Lowe (Cheryl White), Kathy (Thomas) Harris, Gary (April) FitzGerald, his brother Lenny Mottola, his grandchildren, Samantha (Weston) Adams, Kristie (Erik) Zabik, Jill (Christian) Laing, and Tom (Mary) Harris, and his great grandchildren Derek, Alucio, Aria, Seth, Amitiel, Joseph, Jacob, and Joshua. He was preceded in death by his mother Mildred Baker, his father George B. Hogarth, his brothers, George Hogarth, Vinny and Michael Mottola, his sister, Kathy Hammond, and his son John Jordan Hogarth.
Fred was known for his love of fishing, camping, golfing and John Wayne. But most importantly, he was known for his generosity. He touched many lives over the years as a leader in his church community and he helped countless people who were in need. He honored his wife, Marianne, by serving meals to women of their church on Mother’s Day, volunteering at her women’s club fashion shows, and traveling the world with her. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Fred’s love for life was exhibited through his jokes and silly tunes. “Get up, get up and smile a while, a cheery good morning to you.” He’d say, “I planned to do nothing today and I’m halfway done.” If you asked him how he was doing, he’d say, “Better than anybody.” Even his answering machine message acknowledged that they were “out chasing rainbows” or “depositing memories into their memory bank.”
Many will remember Fred for his tremendous work ethic. He spoke of a summer he spent working on railroad tracks, and of the time he taught himself how to run the manual lifts at a hotel, not quite aligning the floor with the elevator. “Step up,” he’d say. He spent many years working as a truck driver and won many truck rodeos. He later used those skills backing in his RV like no other camper! It was his work at Trans Audit that he viewed as his greatest accomplishment, because it was at Trans Audit where he truly impacted lives.
A celebration of life will be held on July 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Parkway Christian Church in Davie, Florida.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to VITAS Hospice for their diligent care, to Lisa Sciarratta who has gone above and beyond in every way possible, to Dennis who has been a rock and always shows up when he is needed, to Charlotte and all of Fred and Marianne’s neighbors. Fred was able to stay in his home until his very last breath and that would not have been possible without the help of everyone mentioned above. We are forever grateful.
We know you’re walking on golden streets, Fred, and that brings us peace. We love you and we will think of your smiling eyes forever more.
