Mr. Hermann Duperval was born on June 2, 1957, in Arniquet, Les Cayes, Haiti, to Mr. Joseph Dunord Duperval and Mrs. Yvanne Larame Duperval. He attended primary school and graduated from Lycée Philippe Guerrier in Arniquet, Les Cayes, Haiti. He then pursued accounting studies at the Institut Supérieur Technique d’Haiti, Leconte, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Hermann's journey took him first to Montreal, Canada, where he joined his oldest brother, Joseph Michel Duperval. After about six months, he relocated to Boston, MA, to join his brother Jean Yvon Duperval and his sister, Mrs. Marie Francoise Duperval Joseph. While there, he graduated from Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School and continued his education at Roxbury Community College in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
While in college, he began working and later had a son named Mr. Sandley Pierre-Louis. During his time in the United States, he had moved to Montreal, Canada, Anaheim, California, and Brooklyn, New York. He also returned to Arniquet, Haiti for a period, returning to the home he had once grown up in as a young lad.
Hermann was affectionately known as the "baby" of the family and affectionately called “Manno”. His cousin Eugene fondly remembered how his older sister, Marie Francoise, would dress him and his cousins, instilling in them the importance of being well-dressed and educated—a lesson Hermann carried with him throughout his life. Among his closest secondary school and university friends, Mr. Rosan Pierre and Mr. Marco Fevrier, he was well-loved for his humor, love of movies, and impeccable style. He maintained close friendships with them until his recent passing.
Hermann also had a deep love for his family and friends. He once told his oldest sister that if faced with a choice of death, he would sacrifice himself to allow her to live. He continued to maintain strong ties to his siblings and family, often calling, texting, and visiting with them. By the late 1990s, he decided to leave the east coast for the sunny skies of southern Florida. He lived in Delray Beach before eventually settling in Miami, where he forged a close friendship with Marta Mouri. Together, they enjoyed trips to the beach, shopping, and visiting family in Broward.
Despite battling end-stage chronic kidney disease and requiring dialysis several times a week, Hermann remained resilient and kind-hearted. He was known for his impeccable dress and pleasant demeanor, often visiting family at a nearby nursing home and maintaining strong ties with relatives in New York and Boston. A trendsetter in men’s fashion, Hermann was often seen in stylish outfits, such as snakeskin cowboy boots with a fine suit or a white suit with a matching scarf and fedora.
Hermann’s life was marked by his dedication to family, education, and his journey from Haiti to the United States. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him as a fashion icon, hard worker, and someone who enjoyed the finer things in life.
