Hilda Espejo Gimbel, born in Havana, Cuba, on April 9, 1928, passed away on April 3, 2020. She was 91 years old. Hilda (Bisabuela or “Bisa”) lived a full life, had a heart of gold, and impacted so many people along the way. Family was everything to her and her lasting gift is a legacy of strong family connections. Her endless generosity, unselfishness, loyalty, stern lectures, and almost daily Hildaisms (malapropisms) will be missed by all. Hilda was predeceased by her parents, Alonso Espejo and Virginia De Cordova, and her husband of 62 years Albert Gimbel, III. She was the proud mother of Louise Todd (John), Sue Pittard (John), Tico Gimbel (Teri), Jim Gimbel (Olgui), Anne Meoli (Tony) and Mike Gimbel (Marian). She was so proud of her legacy of 6 children, 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Bisa did not take life’s blessings for granted. She was a person whose convictions ran as deep as her Catholic faith. She was a wonderful role model to her entire family demonstrating how to live a full, meaningful life by focusing on what is truly important: faith and family, and in that order. In light of the current health crisis, a Catholic service and a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
