Celebrating the life of Ingrid Elissa Lowe, affectionately known as “Chin”, a woman who graced this world with love, warmth, and creativity from May 27, 1948, to December 20, 2024. While our hearts are heavy with the loss of Ingrid, we also find solace in the incredible memories she leaves behind—a legacy as vibrant and full of life as she was.
Born in the beautiful town of Big Bridge, Westmoreland, Jamaica, Ingrid was one of the beloved daughters of Benjamin and Mary Barrett. From an early age, she displayed a spark of curiosity, creativity, and kindness that would define her life. She attended school in Savanna-la-Mar, Jamaica; where she excelled and began to lay the foundation for her life’s passion - whether it was crafting garments or transforming spaces, Ingrid’s touch always carried an elegance and precision that left a lasting impression.
Ingrid’s early years were shaped by her family’s faith and values. Together, they attended Big Bridge Presbyterian Church, a cornerstone of their lives and a place where Ingrid’s spiritual foundation was built. It was here, in this nurturing environment, that she developed a strong sense of community, compassion, and a commitment to living a life of service and love.
After completing her education, Ingrid pursued a career in home economics and sewing—talents that became both her livelihood and a means of expressing her artistry. At a young age, Ingrid moved to the big city of Montego Bay to embark on her journey as an entrepreneur. There, she managed a restaurant on Strand Street, showcasing a strong work ethic and unwavering dedication that earned her the respect and admiration of many. During this period, Ingrid also formed lifelong friendships, further enriching her journey with meaningful connections.
Following this, Ingrid embraced one of the most fulfilling roles of her life: motherhood. She welcomed two wonderful children, Caprice and Mark Rattigan, into the world. As a devoted mother, she poured her heart into raising her children with love, strength, and resilience, ensuring they grew up in an environment full of warmth and encouragement.
While working in Montego Bay, Ingrid’s life changed forever when she met the love of her life, Henry Lowe. Their connection blossomed into a beautiful partnership, and they were married on November 22, 1977. Together, they made their home in Coral Gardens, Montego Bay, and welcomed their son, Andre Lowe, completing their wonderful family.
In 1978, Ingrid and Henry embarked on a new chapter together, migrating to the United States. They settled in Miami, Florida, where they purchased a home that would become a haven of love and creativity. Ingrid’s home was her masterpiece, a place where family and friends were always welcomed with open arms and a warm smile. Though far from their Jamaican roots, Ingrid carried the spirit of her homeland in her heart and home, weaving her culture into every aspect of her family’s life.
It was in Miami that Ingrid's talents and passions flourished. She worked as a home health aide, companion, and homemaker, extending her nurturing spirit to those who needed it most. She expressed her creativity in countless ways—designing stunning floral arrangements, baking delicious cakes for holidays and weddings, and creating a home filled with warmth, love, and laughter.
Ingrid was a woman of boundless creativity and energy, but what truly set her apart was her heart. She welcomed everyone she met, making each person feel valued and loved. Her garden was a reflection of her spirit—a vibrant display of orchids, roses, and other blooms, lovingly tended and thriving under her care.
Ingrid was not just a wife, mother, grandmother, and sister—she was a friend, a confidante, and a source of inspiration to everyone who knew her. She had an incredible ability to make those around her feel seen, heard, and loved. Her kindness was genuine, her laughter contagious, and her love boundless.
Ingrid’s legacy lives on in her loving husband, Henry Lowe; her children, Mark and Caprice Rattigan and Andre Lowe; and her beloved grandchildren, Ashley Stampley, Chelsy and Brianna Rattigan. She is also survived by her four great-granddaughters, Elisa Daniels, Robyn Daniels, Cassie Stampley, and Taylor Hill; her daughter-in-law, Anna Espinal; her brother, Charles Barrett; and her sister, Ranchanara Wong. Cherished sisters-in-law Jasmine, Viviene, Jacinta, and Hazel Barrett also hold her memory close, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will forever treasure her memory. Let us not forget her loyal dog, Charlie, who brought her so much joy.
As we say goodbye to Ingrid, let us remember her not with sadness, but with gratitude. Let us celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the countless ways she touched our hearts. Her legacy is not only in the family she cherished and the lives she brightened but also in the love and creativity she shared so freely.
Ingrid, you have left an indelible mark on this world, and though we will miss you deeply, we take comfort in knowing that your spirit will live on in all of us. Rest in peace, Ingrid Elissa Lowe. The rose has blossomed.
