
He was born April 16, 1919, in Paramaribo, Suriname, the son of the late Jacques M. W. Morroy and the late Franoise Morroy-Macrooy. He was the eldest of nine siblings.
Mr. Morroy left Suriname in 1939 to join the Royal Netherlands Army in the Netherlands. Shortly after army training, as a member of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army (Koninklijk Nederlands Indisch Leger; KNIL), he left for Indonesia where he met Maria (Rie) Albertina Jaarsveld. They were married on May 28, 1941, in Magelang, Indonesia.
In 1942, during World War II, the Japanese Imperial Army defeated the KNIL, which was the start of his three and a half years as a prisoner of war under Japanese occupation. After the war, he reunited with his wife and went to the Netherlands in 1949, where he joined the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Upon returning to Suriname, he joined the Troepenmacht in Suriname (Armed Forces in Suriname; TRIS). During his military career, he reached the rank of Adjutant (non-commissioned officer or warrant officer) and was involved in the administration of the first recruitment program for Surinamese soldiers. His last assignment at the TRIS was as administrator for the last Governor of Suriname, His Excellency Johan H. E. Ferrier.
Upon his retirement in 1970, he joined C. Kersten and Company as Deputy Chief, Accounts Payable Division. In 1976, he moved to Florida.
He is survived by his daughter Rieke Abboud of Suriname; daughter and son-in-law, Yvonne and Armand Chanconie of France; daughter and son-in-law, Rinia and Stanley Lin Tsung of Canada; daughter Carmelita Morroy of Pembroke Pines, FL; daughter Judith Morroy of Arlington, VA; daughter and son-in-law Ingrid Morroy and Jerry Botland of Arlington, VA; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Ina, Irma, Hetty and Edith; brothers Otto and Guido; nieces and nephews and many other relatives.
Mr. Morroy was preceded in death by his wife, Rie; and his sisters Hilda and Joyce.
