

Joseph L. Bender (affectionately known as "Uncle Bud" to his many nieces and nephews), age 89, of Margate, Florida, passed away on October 18, 2024. Born on October 27, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Liszwek) Bender.
Joe was a proud graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, where he excelled in both football and basketball, setting numerous school records. His athletic prowess earned him a scholarship to Montana State University, and he later attended Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois.
After working in the family business, Elmhurst Auto Parts, Joe built a successful career as a medical equipment sales executive with Westinghouse and Siemens, earning many distinguished sales awards throughout his tenure. He retired in 2003 after a long and accomplished career.
Joe cherished his friends, who were spread across Florida, Indianapolis, IN, and Chicago, IL. Deeply devoted to his family, he treasured time spent at family gatherings on the beach.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Therese M. Bender (Kammer), and his brother, Tom. He is survived by his children: Laura Bender; Mark (Kerry) Bender; Paul (Dana) Bender; James Bender; John (Becky) Bender; Jeanette (James) Burman; and Charles (Melissa) Bender, along with his sister, Kathy Norman of Elmhurst, Illinois. Joe also leaves behind his greatest joys—his 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who were the light of his life.
Family and friends will gather on Friday, October 25, 2024, at Fred Hunters Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street from 11am until time of service at 1pm followed by interment in Hollywood Memorial Gardens East.
