She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Richard Martinez; her daughter, Suzanne Moody (Chip) and son Rich Martinez (Michelle); and five grandchildren, Taylor, Trey, Cameron, Gunnar and Caden. She was predeceased by her parents John and Kathleen Broe and brother John Broe.
She is survived by sisters Sally Whitton and Patricia Broe, sisters-in-law Claire Broe and Suzanne Owen and many nieces and nephews.
Kathleen graduated from North Miami Senior High School where she and her husband were high school sweethearts. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Barry College (where she was inducted into Barry’s Hall of Fame) and Nova Southeastern University respectively.
Kathleen was a proud Broward County educator beginning her teaching career at Madonna Academy, Miramar and Nova High Schools. She moved into administration at Ft. Lauderdale, Nova, Western and McArthur High Schools, and ended her Broward County career as the Principal of Deerfield Beach High School. Upon retirement, she worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida. She was most proud of the work she and her co-workers did to impact the lives of students across the county. Throughout her tenure, my dad was at her side at many of the schools’ events from football games to proms. She loved her career!
Everybody will remember Kathleen being at her grandchildren’s sporting events. She and Richard traversed the country following them all playing soccer, golf, baseball, lacrosse and football. They were their biggest cheerleaders. Kathleen played the matriarch role fantastically, and she will be missed by many.
