Laurie H. Sands

February 1, 1931-August 17, 2024

Delores Halison Roberts, affectionally known to all as “Laurie”, was born to the late John and Mabel Roberts on February 1, 1931 on an island in paradise, Alice Town North Bimini, Bahamas.   On August 17th, our Lord sent his best angel to take Laurie home to heaven.  Laurie 93 years young peacefully passed at home while surrounded by her loving children.  Laurie was preceded by five of her six siblings; John, Amanda, Thelma, Carl, and two sisters named May.  Laurie is survived by her younger sister; Jeanette Carroll of Nassau Bahamas.  Laurie married the love of her life, the late William Herbert Sands “Herbie” of 51 years. Laurie and Herbie were married in Bimini, their home town.  Laurie accompanied Herbie to Texas after their third daughter was born ultimately settling in Hollywood, Florida in 1960.  Together they raised seven children, Peggy, Sandra (husband Jim McMann, both deceased), Dolly (husband Dr. David Sugerman, Telly, Jane (husband Bill Werne), William H Sands Jr. “Bill” (wife Debbie) and Lisa (husband Johnny Sanchez).  Laurie was a grandmother to Patrick Carter (deceased), Jimmy McMann (wife-Tomra), Chris McMann, Stephanie McMann Mourning (Husband Brian), Brian McMann (wife-Missy), Kevin McMann, Danielle Prieto (husband -Adrian) William “LB” Sands (wife -Nicolette), Brielle Sands, Joey Larrinaga, Michele Larrinaga, Brett Werne (wife -Dr. Rachel Werne), Brad Werne, Brent Werne (wife -Ellie)  along with 26  great grandchildren and 6  great great grandchildren.  Laurie was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews and a valued friend to all who knew her.  Laurie devoted her entire life to Herbie and her children.  Everyone who met her loved her.  Laurie was a devoted Christian who led by example prioritizing her family and our Lord Jesus. She will forever be a loving mentor to her children, grandchildren, family and friends.  She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
