Lennox Angus Wattley

Lennox Angus Wattley was born in Trinidad on April 28, 1938. He grew up in Belmont, Port-of Spain. He was the sixth child of seven children born to his parents- Gladys and George Wattley. Five of his siblings are deceased, and he is survived by one sister Alicia. He got married to his wife Myrna in 1964, and this union was blessed with three children- two daughters - Lauren and Allyson, and one son- Arden. He has three grandsons- Brandon, Devin and Dillon.

Lennox attended Queens Royal College in Port-of-Spain, and was awarded a Government Island Scholarship in 1959. He went to the University of Liverpool in England, where he specialized in Hispanic Studies, and graduated with a B.A. Degree with honors in 1962. Upon his return to Trinidad, he taught Spanish, French, and Latin at his Alma Mater Queens Royal College. In 1964 he pursued a post-graduate Diploma in Education at U.W.I. in Jamaica, because teaching was his passion at that time. After teaching for the next few years, in 1969 he decided to pursue a post-graduate Diploma in International Relations at U.W.I in St Augustine, Trinidad, with the goal of joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Trinidad and Tobago.*

His career as Diplomat began in 1974 when he was posted to the Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago in Brasilia, Brazil, and after 4 years he was transferred to the Trinidad and Tobago High Commission in Ottawa, Canada for three years. Upon his return to Trinidad in 1981, he spent the next four years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in 1985 was then posted to the Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago in Washington DC. for four years. From 1989 to 1994 he was appointed as Deputy Permanent Representative to the Trinidad and Tobago Mission to the United Nations in New York. From 1994 to 2003 he once again worked at Embassy of Trinidad and Tobago in Washington DC, until his retirement.

Lennox and his wife Myrna relocated to South Florida in June 2003. He kept busy with the gym and various social and cultural activities until he became ill in 2012. He fought this illness for 5 years, until he succumbed to the effects at age 79.
