Leo Robert Vezina, 83, of Southwest Ranches, Florida, passed away on February 12, 2025. A devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather, Leo was the embodiment of strength, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family and work.
Born on June 5, 1941, in Leominster, Massachusetts, Leo built a life marked by hard work, integrity, and an unshakable commitment to those he loved. For over 50 years, he shared a remarkable life with his beloved wife, Yvette, building a family rooted in love, determination, and strong values. Together, they raised five sons: Paul (Pam), Troy (Michelle), Scott (CJ), Eric (Ingrid), and Mark (Tricia). He took immense pride in his grandchildren—David 36, Kevin 28, Jasmine 20, Austin 18, Nathan 12, Ford 11, Colt 10, River 7 —as well as his great-grandchildren, Payton 4 and Blakely 1.
Leo was a dedicated leader in the construction industry for over 60 years. After moving from Massachusetts in 1971, he founded VES Carpenter Contractors Inc., where he served as President. Under his leadership, the company played a key role in building large housing communities and major commercial projects throughout Broward County.
In 1987, he founded Vezina and Sons Construction, Inc., along with his 5 sons where he served as President, building custom homes and commercial projects across South Florida. His expertise helped shape communities, from residential developments to large-scale commercial buildings. Also, as Vice President of Redman Builders, Inc., Leo played an integral role in major projects, including developments for the Seminole Tribe of Florida. His unmatched work ethic and leadership earned him the respect of colleagues, clients, and all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Leo had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He found joy in tending to his garden, biking, and taking golf cart rides. He cherished weekend getaways to Marco Island; treasured time spent with his family and had a special love for Christmas. Every holiday season, his home was illuminated with spectacular lights, a tradition he took great pride in and one that brought joy to many.
Leo’s life was a testament to hard work, perseverance, and deep devotion to his family. His presence was larger than life, and his impact will never be forgotten. While we mourn his passing, we find comfort in the incredible memories he left behind.
A memorial service for Leo will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Fred Hunter's Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood, FL 33024, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Leo was a builder in every sense—of structures, of a beautiful family, and of a lasting legacy. His strength, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Els for Autism Foundation (www.elsforautism.org), a cause dear to his heart.
