Born in Cascade, St Mary, Jamaica to Mr. Uriel Aarons (deceased) and Edna Louise Walker Aarons (deceased), Lloyd was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He grew up in Eltham Exchange, St Ann, where at an early age, he had the daring to tell his father that he was going to learn a trade instead of helping him on the farm.
As a young man, he migrated to Lodge, St Ann, where he worked as a carpenter/joiner, and his mastery of the trade was legendary. He continued in this profession for most of his working life, except for a brief stint in 1962, as a farm worker cutting sugar cane in Belle Glade, FL. Lloyd could close his eyes, rub a piece of furniture with his fingers and tell you, in detail, how it was made. He was a prolific cabinet and furniture maker. But one of his proudest accomplishments, was the home he designed and built for his family in his beloved hometown of Lodge. A home, he shared with his wife Masie, who lovingly referred to it as “beauty-view lodge.”
In 1957, he met twenty-year old Masie Davis, she was strong willed, and sharp-tongued with a beautiful singing voice. ‘Babu Lloyd,’ as she called him, would ride around town on a Honda S90 motorcycle, you could hear him coming from a mile away. He and Masie shared a love for country music and R&B classics from the likes of Otis Redding, Percy Sledge and Jim Reeves. After several years of friendship and courtship, they married on June 5, 1965. They have been married for 56 years. Their partnership produced six children – Lloyd Jr. (Robin), Peter, Jacquline, Osmond, Winslow (Richardo/Bigga) and Kenniel (Siri).
In 1988, he and his family migrated to Miramar, Fl where he continued his work as a carpenter, first at Darby Mitchell Antiques and then at Quantum fine woodworking. He retired in 2002 at the age of 65 when he started to lose his vision. Although legally blind, Lloyd was known to sneak around and tinker with his tools to fix things around the house. You would know he was up to something when you heard his trademark whistling, which he did when he worked. Over the years, you would still find him with a carpenter’s pencil and pocketknife in his front shirt pocket. As his vision continued to decline, he passed the time listening to talk radio. His favorite programs were Winston Barnes and baseball, specifically highlights about the Florida Marlins.
We celebrate the life of a kind, loving gentle man, who navigated his illness with grace and dignity.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Masie Davis Aarons; his children Lloyd Jr. (Robin) Aarons (Sandra Aarons), Peter Aarons (Marjorie Aarons), Jacquline Aarons Gay (granddaughter Gabby Gay), Osmond Aarons (Doreen Aarons), Winslow (Richardo/Bigga) Aarons (Sophia Danvers Aarons) and Kenniel (Siri) Aarons (Colleen Aarons); his siblings Sheila Aarons Edie (Barrington Edie), Sonia Aarons Wilson, Lester Aarons and Errol Aarons (Joycemin Aarons); 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Uton Aarons, Antonio Aarons and sister Julia Aarons.
His celebration of life will be held on February 11, 2022, at St. David Catholic Church in Davie FL. and he will be interned at Fred Hunter’s Cemetery in Hollywood, FL.
