Lorenzo Garfield Troope, affectionately known as Mark, was born on Thursday May 30, 1968, in Portland, Jamaica, West Indies.
In 1980, Mark’s parents migrated to the United States, and Miami, Florida became his home. He graduated from Miami Carol City Senior High School in 1987 and, in 1988, proudly joined the United States Marine Corps.
Mark attended aviation school in Millington, Tennessee, and Jacksonville, Florida. His first duty station was Cherry Point, North Carolina, where he served for one year. He was later deployed to Saudi Arabia, where he participated in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.
Throughout his military service, Mark was stationed in several countries, including Kuwait, Japan, the Philippines, Diego Garcia, and Bahrain. After completing his active-duty service, he remained in the Active Reserves until 1997.
While stationed in Iwakuni, Japan, Mark met Megumi Ishimoto. They later married on March 19, 1992, in Craven County, North Carolina, before relocating to Miami, Florida, in 1993. In Miami, they welcomed their beloved son, Denzel Troope, in 1994.
While living in Florida, Mark pursued training in commercial vehicle driving at McFatter Technical College. This career change allowed him to work for many years as a skilled truck driver, faithfully providing for and caring for his family.
Mark endured many years of hypertension, which later progressed to kidney disease and intestinal cancer. Even while managing his own health challenges, he remained a source of strength and support during the loss of several family members, including his mother, Reta Guy; his father, Lorenzo Troope; his ex-wife, Megumi Ishimoto; his stepfather, Charles Guy; his grandmother, Inette Rose; his siblings Lenworth Troope (Andrew), Martin Boothe (Peter), and his sister, Karen Guy, among others. His visits, phone calls, and constant presence meant more than words can express.
Mark’s illness and passing on Sunday, February 1, 2026, were deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. He is especially mourned by his son, Denzel Troope; his remaining siblings, Beverley Davis, Juliet Lee, Richard Guy, Charlene Guy, and Derrick Guy; along with extended family and close friends.
Although Mark will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing that he is no longer in pain, and we look forward to seeing his smile again.
“And He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
