

Margaret “Peggy” Stewart Stein, 100, of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Pittsburgh, PA passed away peacefully at her Florida home on July 21, 2024. Born on August 2, 1923, (although she joyfully celebrated 100 birthdays on August 1), Peggy was the beloved only child of Sarah Ann and William Stewart. In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by her husband of 34 years, Arthur Gerald Stein — her high school sweetheart.
Peggy graduated as Salutatorian from Westinghouse High School in June 1941 and earned her business degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1945. She taught business subjects at Turtle Creek High School from 1945 through 1953. While teaching, she went on to complete her Masters in Education at University of Pittsburgh in 1948.Though she spent most of her life in Pittsburgh, PA, Peggy and Art enjoyed many wonderful years at their vacation home at Jade Beach West in Pompano Beach, FL.
After Art’s passing in 1985, Peggy continued to split her time between Pittsburgh and Florida until 2008, when she moved full-time to Coral Ridge Towers North. Her passion for travel continued to take her around the world, with trips to Israel, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Netherlands, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, The Bahamas, the British Isles, and Canada. In addition to her love of travel, she was a lifelong learner and an avid reader of nonfiction. She loved playing bridge, learning new conventions, and even won tournaments well into her late nineties. She was also a member of Philanthropic Education Organization (P.E.O.) Sisterhood, The American Association of University Women (AAUW), and the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale.
Peggy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and greatgrandmother.Left to cherish her memory are her son, Arthur William Stein, and his wife, Leslie Boyer; and her two daughters, Margaret Ann Stein Almond, whose husband, Charles Lynn Almond, passed away in 2019, and Lynn Stewart Stein Cassady and her husband, Ed. In addition, Peggy will be remembered as a loving Nana by her grandchildren Meredith Trimble Stein Parker (Dustin), Nathaniel Stein, Heather Stratton Almond, Margaret Claire Cassady Vaughn (Wesley), Stewart Edward Cassady, and Sarah Church Cassady and step-grandchildren Alaine Almond Bickel (Louis), Alexander Almond, and Logan Boyer as well as her great-grandchild Oliver Stein and her step great-grandchildren Laurie, Margaret, and Louis Bickel III.
She was blessed with a long time devoted caregiver, Marie Chantel Pierre Louis. The family also expresses our thanks to Vitas Hospice.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on August 1, 2024, at the Lauderdale Memorial Park Cemetery, 2001 SW 4th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315, where Peggy will be laid to rest next to her cherished husband and near her beloved parents.
