Mary Martha Bennett

Mary was born June 1, 1938 in Boston, Massachusetts, to John and Gertrude Costello. She married her loving husband John Francis Bennett on September 26, 1959 after his college graduation from Brown University and he survives. Mary had four wonderful children, her two sons John Jr of Scottsdale, Arizona and Timothy of Fort Lauderdale and her two caring daughters of Fort Lauderdale, Lisa and Martha. Mary was one of four children and is survived by her sister Gertrude and brothers Edward, Jacky and Vincent.

Mary was first and foremost an amazing mother; she was at her happiest times with her children and their 7 grandchildren. Holidays were always great days for Mary as she took joy in cooking big family meals and signature dishes especially her marshmallow salad. She loved her waterfront house and lived at the current Bennett house for 23 years. But Mary was most proud of her husband John with whom she was married to for 53 extraordinary years. They were a picture perfect couple and enjoyed there Sunday afternoon Yacht Club cookouts and quiet times at home watching television together. As a couple they spent many vacations at there favorite location in St Thomas. Mary also enjoyed traveling to New York City with her husband John for the great restaurants and walks around the city.

Mary had an unwavering faith in God. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and never missed a week without attending mass. Mary will forever be in the heart of her husband John and her four children as she is now in heaven with her savior Jesus Christ.

The family will receive friends on Friday July 12, 2013 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 718 South Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316. A Funeral Mass Celebrating her life will be held the following day on Saturday July 13, 2013 at 12PM at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 901 NE 2nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.
