Mavis Cotterell and Leonard Smith, in the parish of Trelawny,
Jamaica, West Indies. Noel attended Granville Primary School
and Kentish Comprehensive College. Following his graduation,
Noel joined the Army Branch of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF)
and served for a number of years. Upon completion of his tour in
the JDF, Noel became a member of the Jamaica Constabulary
Force (JCF), a department of the Ministry of National Security.
After many years of service with the JCF, Noel worked for several
years as a law enforcement official in the position of Immigration
Officer.
In 1974, Noel met and married his first love, Ena May Lambert.
From that union they have one child, Wayne. Subsequently, Ena
became ill and deceased in 1977. Following the early passing of
Ena, and when Noel thought he would never love again, he met
the love of his life, Beverly Morris. Immediately after, Noel
migrated to Chicago, Illinois in the United States. Following his
migration, Noel was reunited with Beverly, and they were joined in
marriage on August 22, 1981, until his passing on July 14, 2023.
Between them they have five children, Ouida (Zoë), Wayne,
Nicole, Bianca and Nika. At the time of his death, Noel resided in
Tamarac, Florida with his wife, Beverly.
Noel was employed at the Continental Bank in Chicago where he
worked as a security officer for several years. Noel decided to
slow down his pace and changed professions to a less stressful
role. He was then employed with Monumental Life Insurance
company where he worked until his retirement. After retirement, he relocated to Florida and was a member of the Jamaica Ex Police Association of South Florida, Inc.
Noel was kind, unselfish, and brilliant…a man of few words whose
acts of service and dedication to his family spoke volumes. He
exuded gratitude for his family and friends. The simplest things
made him happy. Noel enjoyed spending time with his family,
fishing, watching old Western films and anything involving nature.
He was enthusiastic about agriculture and was a farmer at heart.
He enjoyed playing dominoes, listening to reggae music, and
most of all, cooking for his family and friends. He was very
passionate about cooking Jamaican cuisine and he was great at
it.
Noel is survived by his wife Beverly Morris-Smith; children Ouida
Gordon, Wayne Smith (Novia), Nicole Plummer, Bianca Smith,
and Nika Smith; grandchildren Noah Smith and Kaia Shelton;
siblings Pauline Hensley, Dudley Smith, Lenora O’Conner
(Robert), Norma Stephens, Rohan Smith and Claudelle Angus,
and other family and friends.
Noel is preceded in death by his mother Mavis Cotterell and
