I just learned of Ron's death through another transfer guy. I have used Ron for 32 years for transfers of film from the 30s-70s, both my children's precious modeling comps, and probably 1,000 rolls of film which he painstakingly sat and hand checked each one! Sorry the acknowledgement is 3 years late but I didn't want to not recognize a man who did so much for us! At one point I was so dismayed with my daughter's headshots that he grabbed her and invited us into the back where he snapped off a few and finally the headshot was perfect! Driving to Flamingo Photo was not around the corner from west Davie, but we did it for years. It was so worth it when I look at my bright albums with that high quality paper that only Ron used! He once surprised me with a huge mounted photo of my girls that he framed for me as well. To this day it's in my dining room and seen often throughout the day. I will never forget Ron. I'm so sad that I hadn't seen him since I stopped in around 2017 or 18.
 I can still smell the smell of the developing chemicals that immediately hit you as you entered. Please know he was loved by many and was really a part of our children's growing years. He always knew our names and was a fine small business owner. I don't think we could find one like it if we tried. Bless you Ron and may you rest in eternity. XOXO

I am beyond sad and shocked to learn about Ron's untimely passing! I moved to Orlando over six years ago and we kept in touch on the phone ( when he would pick up the phone and want to chat) and on Facebook!
I recently called over to Flamingo Photos to hear a recording renaming the company Flamingo Transfers. I was actually needing his advice which he ALWAYS happily gave to me about transferring 100 Super eight tapes! I was finding it odd not to be called back. So, I hopped on Facebook and saw it said his page has turned into a remembering page. I am so heartbroken to google his name and find this listing! 
    My heart goes out to all his family and friends that loved and appreciated his amazing talents.  I will never forget how much I learned from him and will be forever grateful for all the wisdom and photography knowledge he bestowed upon me! It is with extreme sadness that I am reading that Ron has passed. I worked with Ron in Florida and he was so kind in mentoring me in photography and sales. My entire family adored him as he was so kind and friendly with us. 
I ask the family to please accept my heartfelt sympathy for your loss. Your Ronnie was a treasure. 

I wish please to extend my deepest condolences to the family of Ron De Pompa.  
Ron was my friend.  I am a photographer by choice, not by profession.  
I became so because I witnessed moments too magnificent to be lost to the world and only experienced by me.
When first I came into Ron's studio I found I could talk with him.  It was easy to talk with him as there was a sense of humility in his aura.

I explained that I work with film.  Still, though the world around me has changed and everything now is digital.

Told Ron my film camera is a Pentax K1000 and I use manual and take responsibility for the image.  He smiled softly, understood a dinosaur had walked into the studio and he could work with me.

I started by bringing in prints and Ron printed them 5X7, 8X10 on backing.  Then one day as I was waiting for him to arrive I saw his Nikon D3200 in red on a table.

I searched Ebay, bought the exact copy(out of respect of course) and found an 80mm Nikon portrait lens in Japan to do a shoot in his lab.  Ron loaned me the lab, synched my camera remotely to his flash and I did my first photo session with an inspiring young singer, son to a friend of mine.

Ron was thus an enabler in my life.  In photography you "capture a moment", make it immortal and allow it to live beyond its' time without being lost or experienced only by you.

What Ron did was important, meaningful, and performed with excellence.

Thank you dear friend for the tripod you gifted me and the portraiture we did together.
You will be missed, but not forgotten.
