He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on August 26, 1928, son of Marvin and Alice (Holland) Funderburk. At age three, Robert and his family moved to Miami, Florida where he was raised and educated, graduating from Miami Senior High School before attending the University of Miami.
Robert went to work in the family business, Fred McGilvray, Inc., as a mechanical engineer. He retired as vice president of the company in 1987. Both Robert and his wife Patricia were longtime members of the Hollywood Hills Methodist Church. He was an avid reader of western novels, enjoyed riding his bike and camping with his sons.
He is survived by his children Robert (Valerie) Funderburk, II, Eric (Patricia) Funderburk, Lee (Dena) Funderburk, daughter-in-law, Darlene Funderburk, 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Patricia (McGilvray) Funderburk in 2010, son Scott Funderburk in 2009 and brother John Marvin Funderburk in 1986.
Visitation is on Wednesday, November 16th from 10:00 ~ 11:00 A.M. at Fred Hunters Hollywood Memorial Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Burial will be private.
