Robert J. “Bob” Horvath, 91, passed away on January 15, 2022. He was the son of Mary and Joseph Horvath. Bob was a 1953 graduate of Akron University and was on their varsity basketball and baseball teams. He managed to maintain high grades in spite of his busy sports activities and was the valedictorian at Garfield High, which was something he was very proud of. He was also inducted into the “Hall of Fame” for basketball @ Akron U. He was recruited by the Cincinnati Reds pro baseball team and Baltimore Bullets pro basketball teams. He opted to give up his dream and go into the automobile business as it provided more financial security (at that time) for his beautiful, sweet, model wife, Evelyn Kozy, and their future family. They moved from Akron, Ohio to North Miami Beach, Florida in 1955 (one year after their oldest son, Bob Jr., was born), where they raised three children. They were blissfully married 39 years until Evelyn’s passing in 1992. Bob loved all sports, was an avid golfer in his adult years, frequented horseracing tracks where he loved betting the “ponies,” but most of all loved his wife and family!
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother Johnny; sister Helen Roth. Bob is survived by his 3 children: Bob, Ron & Tracy; grandchildren: Bobby, Kristen & Ronnie; great-grandchildren: Christopher Jr. & Carter; sister Gloria Albury.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 21, 2022@ Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 2401 South University Drive, Davie, FL 33324. Entombment will follow at Caballero Rivero Southern in North Miami.
