With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Ronald “Neville” McLean, who peacefully departed this life on Monday, March 24, 2025, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on May 19, 1939, in Port Maria, St. Mary, Jamaica, to the late Albertha Hardley and Daniel McLean, Neville lived a life defined by dedication, love, and resilience.
A man of great character and strength, Neville was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His legacy of hard work and unwavering love for his family will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
From an early age, Neville had a passion for all things agriculture and farming, spending much of his youth helping on his family’s farm. His academic pursuits were limited due to severe asthma, which often kept him at home, but he found joy in other endeavors that would later shape his life.
His strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his career delivering fresh cow’s milk to his community, where he met Vinette, the love of his life. As time passed, he became a self-employed trucker and taxi service operator. He later owned and operated a large poultry farm, overseeing the care of over 12,000 chickens with the help of his family. In pursuit of greater opportunities, Neville moved to the United States in 1987 and settled in South Florida, where he worked as a security guard for over 30 years. His love for animals remained steadfast, and one of his proudest accomplishments was owning, training, and racing his horses at the Calder Racetrack in Miami.
He was a devoted husband to Vinette McLean, his beloved partner for over 60 years and wife of 50 years. Together, they raised 8 wonderful children. His legacy continues through his 34 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever cherish his memory.
Neville’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He found immense fulfillment in gardening, nurturing a diverse array of fruits, vegetables, and herbs with care and dedication. A firm believer in maintaining an active lifestyle, he enjoyed bike rides and daily walks. Renowned for his resourcefulness, Neville had a knack for fixing almost anything, and his impressive skill with a machete was admired by many.
Neville is survived by his wife, Vinette; his 7 children, Stephanie, Olive, Charron, Donovan, Rohan, Marcia, and Hanif; his sisters, Mavis, Daphneye, and Delores; his brothers, Raphel and Owen. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albertha and Daniel; his son, Sherwin; grandchildren, Ramesh and Omar; his brothers, Noel, Alfred, and Roy, as well as his sister, Dolcie.
He will be fondly remembered for his steadfast love, strong yet fair guidance, dependability, and unshakable love for coffee. His wisdom, generosity, and courageous spirit touched the lives of many, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
