Sally Shields, age 84, passed away on December 4, 2023, in Weston, Florida. She was born on December 1, 1939, in Concord, New Hampshire. Sally was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Sally was a woman of many trades and occupations throughout her life. She started her career as a switchboard operator at Mead Containers in Miami, where she met her future husband, Walt Shields, in 1958. She later worked as a school bus driver for Beaver Kiddie Kollege, a telemarketer for a bowling alley, and a Tupperware representative for home parties. Sally also worked alongside Walt in their family business as an administrative assistant. In addition to her professional endeavors, she dedicated her time as a volunteer worker at Cleveland Clinic Hospital in Weston.
Outside of her career, Sally had a wide range of hobbies and interests. She was an avid bowler and participated in both ladies' leagues and couples' leagues with her husband and best friends. During the summer, Sally and Walt would travel to Walt's hometown in Dover, Delaware, and enjoyed camping trips with their children. They also traveled all over the world and embarked on 45 cruises, 10 of which included their children, spouses, and grandchildren. Sally loved dancing, particularly jitterbug, and had a deep appreciation for country music. She enjoyed playing card games, bingo, and trying her luck at the casino. Sally had a passion for collecting Lladro figurines and unique collectible dolls. Throughout the years, she had many beloved pets, including Tiki, Martini, Snowball, Cheri, Brandy, and Gizmo. Sally cherished her weekend and summer retreat homes in Lake Wales, Sebring, FL, and Blairsville, GA. And, of course, she had a special fondness for shopping.
Sally is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Walt Shields. She will be forever remembered by her daughters, Debra Sisco, Rhonda Shields, and Janice Meissner, as well as her sons-in-law, Greg Sisco and Chip Meissner. Sally's legacy also lives on through her grandchildren, Chad Meissner, Madeline Sisco-Essig (Doug), Teddy Meissner, Kurt Sisco, and Megan Meissner.
Sally Shields will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her sweet and generous nature, love for her family, and zest for life will be remembered and cherished forever.
