Shawn Bray Newton

On Monday, November 23, 2020, Shawn Bray Newton, a loving husband, and father of two departed this life at the age of 61.

Shawn was born on June 19, 1959, in Norfolk, Virginia to George and Dorothy Shutt Newton. He married Dixie Fain Newton in 1996. Together, they raised two beautiful daughters, Nicole Marie Newton, and Jessica Elizabeth Newton.  He taught them to be confident, adventurous, strong, independent, and loving. Having a zeal for life, Shawn frequently enjoyed the beauty of the mountains and the oceans. He was an avid scuba diver, hunter, and fisherman.  Shawn never met a stranger and was an engaged, kind, and generous friend.

In addition to being a dedicated family man, Shawn was a Patriot and a Public Servant.  He dedicated his life to serving others.  He was a Police Officer with the City of Norfolk from 1981-1989. From 1989-2008, he served as a Marine Enforcement Officer with the U.S. Customs Service and then as a Special Agent with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Miami, Florida. He was particularly proud of the work he conducted with the LEACH Task Force; a task force dedicated to fighting crimes against children.

Shawn was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, daughters, two brothers, Gary Newton and Kevin Newton, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Fred Hunter’s at 2401 South University Drive, Davie, Florida, 33324 on Monday, November 30, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the American Heart Association at www2.heart.org.
