Vincent Hopall Lewis 80, of Sunrise, Florida passed away after battling dementia on Sunday, May 23, 2021. Born in Kingston, Jamaica on December 15, 1940 to Beryl Lewis and brother to Junior (deceased), Salva (deceased), Secundia (Pansy), Glenn and Sonia. He married Sylverni Conie on December 16, 1961, a loving union that spanned almost 60 years; four children – Judith, Steve, Karen and Tanya (deceased), 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, siblings and surviving sisters-in-law Junior (Joyce) and Fay, Vinny was the favorite uncle, substitute father and best friend to his extended family that includes over 40 nieces and nephews who fondly dubbed him Uncle Lou, Lou Lou who knew they would be greeted in favor with a signature “wappin”.
Vincent immigrated to England in 1960, then returned home to Jamaica before immigrating to the United States where spent the majority of his years working and raising his family alongside his wife Sylvia. Vinny’s life can be seen in the care and concerned he shared with his family and circle of friends. Like many West Indians he maintained his relationship with “home” spending his off-time vacationing in Jamaica. After venturing to England and settling in the United States he trained as a tenor singer likened to Mario Lanza and others. At one time he was the “wedding singer” singing the Ave Maria for brides going up the aisle. His health did not allow him to pursue this path and he supported his family as a salesman and clerk.
Vinny will be remembered as a gentle, kind and jovial person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends that spanned his lifetime. He will be remembered for sharing jokes and being the king of Friday night and Holiday Pokeno games but always with a smile on his face.
He will be missed immensely by his family and friends.
